For years, the Province of Siena has been renowned not only for its scenic beauty but also for its numerous folkloric events, featuring palios, festivals, and village celebrations that bring the end of summer and autumn to life.
From September, everything comes alive with new flavors in anticipation of autumn.
This is the season when the most vibrant festivals take place, blending food, music, and fun. At Borgo Grondaie, we’d like to recommend some of the most renowned events in the Siena province that will make your experience a moment to remember.
What are the best festivals in Siena and the surrounding area?
Sagra del Fungo in Pievescola (September 7-9, 10, 14-17)
In September, the charming district of Pievescola, in the municipality of Casole d’Elsa, will host the 48th edition of the Sagra del Fungo. At this event, you’ll be immersed in the characteristic hills of the Tuscan countryside and have the opportunity to taste all the flavors of this land.
The mushrooms are freshly picked from the wooded estates of the Montagnola, a vast hilly area divided between Casole, Monteriggioni, Sovicille, and Siena. The area’s highest point is Montemaggio, which is abundant in the production and gathering of porcini mushrooms, galletti, lardaioli, leccini, and many others to cook and create exquisite dishes. Everything is, of course, perfectly paired with Chianti Colli Senesi wine, complementing the food served.
Plenty of food, good music, and great company; an unmissable event for mushroom lovers!

Festa del Luca in San Gusmè (September 6-10)
One of the most anticipated festivals in the province of Siena, especially due to the stunning location where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Chianti hills.
This festival embraces historical traditions such as crossbow shooting with the Balestrieri di Montaperti (Montaperti Crossbowmen), the barrel race, fireworks, and excursions to discover the Etruscan and medieval beauties of the area.
Good food and excellent Chianti wine are the real stars of the Festa del Luca evenings. Many visitors are captivated by the scenic beauty of the village, but the warm hospitality will leave you even more amazed. The residents of Castelnuovo actively participate in organizing festivities and celebrations to contribute to the sustainable, artistic, and cultural development of the region.
Villaggio della Birra di Rapolano (September 8-10)
The 17th edition of this Beer Festival will take place at the Parco dell’Acqua di Rapolano, near Siena. Rapolano Terme is a charming thermal town in Tuscany, known for its healing thermal waters.
Among the many beer festivals, Rapolano’s is one of the longest-running in the area. It was founded in 2006 to celebrate the alliance with many brewers from Belgium. This event not only celebrates beer but also the friendship and the value of sharing a festive moment, of course, with the protagonist: high-quality craft beer.

Settimana del MIELE di Montalcino (September 8-10)
In the heart of autumn, the village of Montalcino, known for producing Brunello wine, prepares to welcome the 45th edition of the Settimana del Miele (Honey Week). This annual event celebrates the precious nectar of bees and offers a unique experience to immerse yourself in the culture of honey and the culinary traditions of the village.
The event will take place in the picturesque streets and squares of the town, where you can sample and purchase rare and renowned Italian honeys such as strawberry tree honey, rosemary honey, and rhododendron honey. Other products like royal jelly, propolis, wax, and pollen will also be available.
Expert beekeepers will share their knowledge about the life of bees, the honey production process, and the importance of preserving these insects for the ecosystem.
In addition to honey, the markets will feature other local products such as cheeses, wines, sweets, and local crafts.
It’s a great opportunity to visit one of the most charming villages in the Val d’Orcia!
Of course, there are many more events, and listing them all would be impossible!
