How to get from Siena to Florence

TRAIN: Siena and Florence are connected by regular regional trains.
There are both direct trains and ones that require a transfer in Empoli. However, regional trains make many stops, so the direct trip takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you choose the option with a transfer, the journey will take about 2 hours.

Sienaโ€™s train station is well connected to the city center by a network of local buses and the Porta Siena shopping mall escalators, which take you from the center directly in front of the station.

BUS:
If you donโ€™t have a car, this is probably one of the best options. There are two types of buses connecting Siena to Florence:

  • FIRENZE RAPIDA (131R): reaches Florence in about 1 hour with no intermediate stops.

  • FIRENZE ORDINARIA (131O): takes 1 hour and 40 minutes, with stops in Colle Val dโ€™Elsa and Poggibonsi.

This service is operated by SITABUS (www.sitabus.it).
Tickets can be purchased at tobacco shops (tabaccherie) and cost โ‚ฌ7.80.

CAR:
If you have a car or youโ€™ve rented one, just take the Siena-Florence Highway (RA SI-FI, 75.5 km) and in about one hour (traffic permitting) youโ€™ll arrive in Florence.
As for parking, you can leave your car in Scandicci, just outside Florence, at the Villa Costanza parking lot, and then take the tramway to the city center in 20 minutes.
Alternatively, there are underground parking options near Santa Maria Novella station or at Fortezza da Basso.

BLABLACAR:
If you want to travel by car but donโ€™t have one, you can go from Siena to Florence using the car-sharing service “BlaBlaCar”, sharing the ride with new people.
