IF YOU COME TO SIENA WITH CHILDREN…
Just a few kilometers from the city, immersed in an oak and holm oak forest, you’ll find the Chianti Sculpture Park.
A magical place to discover, both with the eyes of a child and the passion for art of an adult. It’s a great idea for spending a relaxing afternoon that satisfies the whole family, just a few kilometers from Siena.
We’ve been there and we were absolutely thrilled.
How to reach the Chianti Sculpture Park in Siena?
From Borgo Grondaie Siena, it is only 13 km away. Take road 408 towards Ponte a Bozzone, then turn left and continue following the signs to Pievasciata. Along the way, you’ll be able to admire some giant contemporary artworks perfectly integrated into the surrounding nature.
Opening hours
Open every day of the year, including Sundays and holidays, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Last entrance at 3:30 PM. No reservation required.
Tickets:
€ 10 adults, € 5 children up to 16 years old.
What struck us the most was the perfect integration of ART and NATURE. It almost feels like the artworks have always been part of the forest, that humans have only added a drop of color, when in fact, some pieces by contemporary artists truly surprised us with their imposing size.
Children can enjoy the wide spaces, run freely among the large artworks, and experience them by touching and listening to the sounds and colors of nature. A museum that activates all the senses, that brings you closer to art even if it’s not your passion, making you feel like a child again among children.
When is the best time to visit the Chianti Sculpture Park?
In winter, definitely on beautiful sunny days, you can enjoy the park with fewer visitors and more peace. In summer, it could be a perfect escape from the scorching heat.
For me, autumn remains the most beautiful season, where the colors of nature blend even more with the colored glass of the exhibited artworks.
At the entrance of the Chianti Sculpture Park, there is also an Amphitheater that hosts concerts of classical music, jazz, opera, tango, and other music genres during July and August. The performances take place every Tuesday evening starting at 7:00 PM, at which time the sun disappears behind the stage and the soft light of the sunset creates a magical atmosphere and a very suggestive ambiance.
Our tips:
- If you have time for a stop and to taste some great Chianti, there are nearby wineries such as Tenuta la Cappellina and Tolaini, both located on the SP9 road toward Pievasciata.
- If you get hungry, we also recommend stopping at the legendary Taverna di Vagliagli, not far from the park (follow directions for Vagliagli), for traditional cuisine and excellent Florentine steak.
