The Siena International Photography Awards, also known as SIPA CONTEST, is on display in Siena from the last weekend of October until December 1st each year.
It’s an event you absolutely can’t miss! One of the most renowned photography contests in the world, with a selection of 48,000 images from 161 countries.
Even though it is in its 6th edition, the SIPA CONTEST has become a festival where photographers from all over the world gather—both experienced professionals and amateurs who share a great passion for this art.

But who are the real protagonists of this event?
Photographers: professionals, amateurs, and students from 161 countries. They are the artists who are able to capture the moment, that unique and unrepeatable instant that will make their photo exceptional.
The themes chosen for the contest have been diverse and have also left ample space for modern experiments with unusual subjects.
Every year, the selection is entrusted to a jury of professional photographers. They have the difficult task of choosing, selecting, and potentially awarding the best photos in the contest. Currently, registrations are already closed. From now until mid-June, the selection of all the photos will take place.
If you want to know who will be awarded in each category, you’ll have to wait until October 24th, 2020, when the final award ceremony of the contest will take place.

In the last edition, many amateur photographers didn’t expect to be awarded. Passion and talent sometimes surpass years of preparation and experience.
To keep the interest in the contest alive every day, the Picture Editor of the Siena International Photography Awards presents the “Photo of the Day.” It is chosen from thousands of images from all over the world. An interesting way to build anticipation around the contest. It’s a kind of “appetizer” while waiting for the main course, which will be the photos from all the artists displaying their works in the global photography exhibition. The exhibition will be held in the modern building “Ex-Distilleria Lo Stellino” on Via Fiorentina in Siena from October 26th to December 1st.
The PANGEA Award is the symbol of the SIPA contest. A crystal sphere representing the Earth, but also a drop of light that fuels photography. A symbol that aims to convey passion and perfection in the search for light with every shot.
